29 de Maio — Queda de Byzantion

When he left the Cathedral [da Santa Sabedoria] the Sultan rode across the square to the old Sacred Palace. As he moved through its half-ruined halls and galleries it was said that he murmured the words of a Persian poet: 'The spider weaves its curtains in the palace of the Caesars; the owl calls the watches in Afrasiab's towers.'

A 29 de Maio de 1453 a cidade de Byzâncio foi tomada no cerco de Mahmet II.
