'Oedipus / bêt noir'

"With Oedipus/Bêt Noir Wim Vandekeybus gets to work with Jan Decorte’s quirky adaptation of Sophocles’ Oedipus. Decorte presents the essence of the story in a language that is beautiful, poetic and ‘child-like’. An impressive cast comprising 16 dancers, musicians and actors depicts the tragic myth of this born anti-hero, who unwittingly kills his father and marries his mother. This is a drama with many layers that opens doors to an endless variety of portrayal and interpretation. Parallel to the directness of Decorte’s idiom, Vandekeybus opts for a staging without any frills: pure, earthy and unvarnished."
